Hi, I’m Robert Middleton, the owner of Action Plan Marketing. 

For 35 years I’ve worked with self-employed professionals to help them attract more of their ideal clients.

One… there is more competition than ever before.

There are simply more consultants, more coaches, and more trainers competing for the same clients.

There are also more websites, social media posts, videos, podcasts, and email newsletters than ever before – and it’s very hard to get noticed.

And because of Coronavirus, companies are cutting back on expenses and are more reluctant to hire outside advisors.

To make it worse, Donald Trump gets 99% of the attention these days! 

So what can you do to attract good clients in these challenging times?

Well, you need to do more of what I call proactive marketing.

In addition to launching a website and posting on social media, you need to reach out more.

And you need to do it virtually from your home office!

You need to have a lot more conversations with both past clients and prospective clients.

And you need to develop concise, well-written, and well-designed marketing materials that make a powerful case for your services. 

You know, basic marketing rocket science. 

But you don’t need hype to market like this, you need credibility.

You don’t need one-size fits all solutions, you need personalized solutions.

You don’t need a ton of great content, you need the right content.

You don’t need to send thousands of emails, but more personalized ones. 

You don’t need to be all over social media, but on one key social media channel. 

And you don’t need to do all of this perfectly, either, because the only way to do it is… imperfectly.

In other words, doing the best you can with what you’ve got. 

And if you take this approach, you’ll get more meetings with more clients who need your services and who will hire you and pay you well.

And you will survive to tell the tale. 

Here’s the big challenge, though.

This is harder than it looks.

It’s easy to say what’s needed, but it’s harder to make it actually happen.

It’s a lot of work developing effective strategies and materials and to reach out and get meetings.

It takes certain skills to convert prospective clients into paying clients.

And it can be quite discouraging trying one thing after another and getting very little response.

Yes, believe me, I know it’s challenging!

So what do you need to do to be successful in these challenging times?

Well, you need a few things…

One, you need the right information about the strategies that actually work and about those that don’t work.

Two, you need feedback and coaching to develop approaches that will really work for you personally.

One size does not fit all.

Three, you need accountability to keep you on track and moving forward.

And finally, four, you also need emotional support to keep you encouraged and resilient no matter how challenging things get.

And I hate to say it, but things are going to be quite challenging for some time.

How long? My guess is more than a year, less than a decade.
